2007 was a huge year for video games, and at all major video game conferences since this past year, videos such as "The Orange Box - Portals" have taken center stage in what is recognized as video game innovation. "Portals", a side element to the popular "Half-Life" video game series creates a trouble-shooting environment for players, where they are required to problem solve and analyze situations using the games "Portal Gun". This sparked a lot of inspiration in the video game world as it seemed to re-vitalize and re-create both the puzzle and platforming genres on gaming while still utilizing the FPS (First-Person-Shooter) dynamics that are popular today. This made for interactive, responsive, 3-dimensional environments that enable a variety of situations and challenges.
1) trustworthy- The standard trust for any game first comes from how trustworthy the hardware is first of all. After a series of trials and tests the gaming platforms it's available on are considered trustworthy now after the bugs have been worked out. An advantage is that this game is available on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, so there are a variety of options available to any gamer in terms of hardware. The game itself provides various forms of trust, whether it be in the in game hints and guides or the responsive AI that assists the player.
2) Appropriate- Portals is an appropriate game for its genre - but it can be argued to be a game of many genres as it utilizes the fundamentals of puzzle, platform, and FPS gaming. This has made it both innovative and recognized in it's field.
3) Smart- I must have used the word innovative at least several times now... Of-course the game is smart. It's that creativity and dimension that have made it so appreciated. The smart design in both simplicity, graphics, and it's physics system have made for a smart design ~ breaking boundaries but not going over-board.
4) Responsive- The responsive action of the game comes from the games AI. Programmed to be highly responsive and sensitive to such actions as: when a player enters a room, moves object, moving towards things, or interacts with the computer AI that has earned the game awards for the best in-game character.
5) Clever- The clever-ness of the games mechanics are make categorize it as a puzzle game. Utilizing physics, dimensions, and the one weapon at your disposal you are required to survive and solve a variety of puzzles and situations.

6) Ludic- The in-game colors are simple, and environmentally responsive (in relation to light and position). White is dominant and the black and grey that is constant to most objects and items simply furthers the mechanical/robotic environment of the game.
7) Pleasurable- Being a video game it has to be pleasurable/fun or else it destroys the purpose.
