okay everyone before i get started i just want to say how excited i am for this project and i think that everyone had really great ideas and effort in todays class so thank you for that
i've been doing some research about cake yeilds and serving sizes and it is suggested by betty crocker that each box of mix serves 10 - 12 people. what does this mean foe our cake ?... well if we make a cake that is 8 by 11 it will be enough cake to serve over 1000 people !!! i think that may be too much i did some calculations and if we wanted to serve say 500 people we could make a cake that was 6 by 8 feet which would require aprox. 46 cakes - i know we really want o make it as big as possible but i think we need to consider how many people we want to be serving
on a side note i think there will be a great possibily that we could get some donations from companies i've looked into a few and in paticular sobeys is very interested in supporting the arts and community an have a link on their website to contact then about donations as well as other companies like walmart and dr.orker. in the past i have had success getting donations for various high school events from walmart and other companies so that is a option to look into for keeping our cost down. at 46 boxes + the white icing it should aprox be 230 plus tax ect so that would leave us with aprox.190 for other suplies again it is due able but never hurts to ask

I think that a cake that serves 500 people sounds right. And if I'm not mistaken, with 6 people on the Baking Team, thats about 7 cakes each from each member.
Teresa, does OCAD have a kitchen where we can store the cakes in a fridge? Just asking so that if transportation is a problem for some members on my team, they can bring a few of the cakes the day before and then the rest the day of.
